Fridays Letters With The Sweet Season

Dear Viral Infection, Be gone. Dang it. You still want to hang around.

Dear Las Vegas, I loved that we had cooler temps today. And a breeze on top of it made my day.

Dear Husband, Thank you for holding my hand and wiping away my tears this week. Love you always.

Dear Marcus, Thank you for your love and support while I've been sick. You're such a terrific son. Love you so much.

Thursday Thoughts ~ September 20, 2013

Ramblings of a Suburban Mom's Thursday Thoughts. I really love her blog. If you're looking for the 101 on subscription boxes definitely check out her out.

This gal has been very sick with a viral infection. Our son actually called the ambulance on Thursday, headed to the emergency room for test. I was prescribed medication and sent home. This morning I headed to my primary doctor for a follow up. She discovered looked at my tests results, from the emergency doctor and ordered blood work. In the meantime, I'm on bed rest, plenty of fluids and inflammation medication. Yikes.

Did you see the first episode of "I Dream of NeNe"? I did but found it very boring. I couldn't even finish watching it.

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I ate at 'The Cracked Egg', in Las Vegas, for breakfast. When we walked in I immediately noticed the cleanness, updated country decor and nice flow. We were immediately greeted and seated at a booth. Our waitress, asked us if we would like coffee, with a smile. I love that.

We found a wonderful breakfast menu. It was hard to chose but I went with the homemade corned beef hash, eggs, rye toast, and country fries. Hubby ordered The Greek Omelet~spinach, feta, tomatoes, hash browns, and wheat toast.

When our meals arrived, we were not disappointed. There was large potions, it was hot and delicious. You could tell that they care about quality ingredients and freshness. We definitely be returning.

Even before injury, chronic back pain may start in the brain

LA Times, By Melissa Healy,September 18, 2013

It's infuriating to chronic pain sufferers to be told their pain in "all in the head." But a new study offers strong evidence that even before a person experiences an injury, the likelihood that the resulting pain will become chronic can be predicted by examining the brain's "white matter" -- the bundles of fatty fibers that carry electrical impulses between the brain's hemispheres and among its dense network of cells and structures.

The new research, published Tuesday in the journal Pain, suggests that variations in brain structure could help identify people who, once injured, are more vulnerable to becoming chronic pain sufferers. But it will take further research to identify whether and which treatments could discourage short-term pain from settling in for a long stay.

The study was conducted by researchers at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, led by Ali R. Mansour and A. Vania Apkarian, both pioneers in defining the link between pain and emotion.

Nevada’s High School Graduation Rate Third Lowest In Nation

Las Vegas Sun, Paul Takahashi, June 11, 2013

Despite making some gains, Nevada has the third worst graduation rate in the nation, according to an Education Week report released last week.

Over the past decade, graduation rates have improved in 46 states — including Nevada — ranging from a fraction of a percentage point to more than 31 percentage points.

This growth has propelled the national graduation rate to its highest point in 40 years, a significant milestone for America's public education system.

Nearly three-quarters of students in the class of 2010 graduated from high school with a regular diploma. The last time this happened was back in 1973.

However, while Nevada's graduation rate rose over the past decade, it is still far from reaching this milestone.

Stop by Las Vegas Sun to read the full article.
