Melissa Taylor Let.It.Go. Blog Hop

Having severe chronic pain is extremely overwhelming, at times. It can take control of your body and life! Over time one wants to exert some type of control over it.

Over the last few months, I've been suffering from hives and skin rashes due to my increase pain. But I decided I would the brave little toaster and keep on going truckin' along! No surprise, the hives and rashes have been getting worst.

On Monday, as I was struggling to wash the dishes my husband said, "Just stop what you're doing! Go to bed right now"! I was in no position to argue with him. I was beaten!

As I climbed into bed, I thought about how I by not choosing to listen to my husband, son my body or God that I've just made things worst.

When will this gal learn! I've got to Let.It.Go.

The Longest Married Couple~Congratulations!

New York News | NYC Breaking News

My husband and I chuckled while watching the CBS Morning Show interview of the couple. While the husband was expressing his appreciation of his wife, she commented that he always has his hand on her knee.

I turned to my husband and asked, "Will you be still holding my hand another 60 years"? He took my hand and said, "I'm holding your hand now. Why would I stop"?

By The Associated Press

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- John and Ann Betar of Connecticut have been married so long they're getting national recognition.

The Fairfield spouses, who tied the knot more than 80 years ago, have been named the 2013 "longest married couple" in the United States by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, a group in San Bernardino, Calif., dedicated to improving Christian marriages.

The Betars will be presented with the honor and gifts at their granddaughter's home in Fairfield on Saturday.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter says the longest married couple is based on nominations, so there may be others who have been married longer.

John is 101 years old and Ann is 97. The two grew up as neighbors in Bridgeport and got married on Nov. 25, 1932. They have five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

It's Official! Saturday Snail Mail Delivery Will End in August 2013

Here's an excerpt of a Reuters article that I read this morning!

(Reuters) - The Postal Service plans to drop Saturday delivery of first-class mail beginning the first week of August, a move that the financially struggling agency said will save $2 billion annually.

For many of us this isn't going to affect us. Most of our "mail" is online! Bill payments, email, online chat and Google hangout have replaced the need to place an envelope in the mailbox.

Our son actually asked me where did the stamp go on the envelope? But I actually remember learning in school how to address an envelope and place a stamp.

My understanding is that packages will continue to be delivered on Saturdays! You can read more of the article by clicking here.

Dina Manzo, Former Real Housewife of New Jersey, Announces Separation

As I scroll through my tweets this morning I came across, Dina Manzo: From Million Dollar Wedding to Housewives and Now DIVORCE, courtesy of MiscFinds4U, and clicked on it for some light reading.

It appears Dina and her husband, have been separated since September. She decided to get it off her chest by tweeting about it!

What I didn't know was Dina Manzo is the 18th "Real Housewife" alumni, that's filed or been divorced since doing one of the series.

Wow! It definitely makes you ponder...for a minute, why someone would do a reality series that shows the good and bad of your marriage and family life. But, Wait! It's about the money, exposure and all the swag, Right?!

So, if I had the opportunity to do a reality show, that featured my husband and son and we get paid?!...the envelope please! "No Way"!

Why Go Out For a Burger When You Can Have One At Home?!

When my husband and son request a burger they look right at me! They say that I make them best! Okay, maybe that's true! Even I like my homemade burgers. My secrets, don't handle the meat too much, garlic salt, use a cast iron frying pan with a little oil.

I love using different breads, cheeses and toppings. This one has sauteed onions, green leaf lettuce, Roma tomatoes, sharp cheddar and Dijon mustard!
Marcus lets me know he loves it with a stuffed mouth and signalling a thump up!

Today is Thank A Mailman Day!

When we moved to Las Vegas, started working as self storage property managers, we became friendly with Christine, our mail carrier. She was so nice, answered questions about the neighborhood and even referred our location a few times. Little did we know that our sons had met each other, through their distance high school program and become friends!

My second mail carrier story goes like this. One day, I was waiting for the mail carrier to finish sorting the mail into the apartment complex mail slots. We started talking, discovered both of us had moved from San Diego. He stopped what he was doing, turned to me and said, "Did you live on Clairemont Mesa Blvd, Apt..."? I said, "Yes"? And he said, "I used to deliver your mail in San Diego"? It seems he recognized my last name, Berry-Morin, on the mail and was thinking I might be the same person!

What a wonderful world we live in!

It Doesn't Have to Be Valentine's Day to Give a Treat

I thought our son would wake up quicker with an incentive this morning!

Menu Plan Monday ~ February 4, 2013

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I started the Melissa Taylor Online Bible Study last week. The book is Let.It.Go by Karen Ehman. It's about maintaining control, the exhaustion of maintaining it, and finding your way to a more calm life. If you want to join in it's not too late. Just head over to Melissa's website to sign up or get more details.

We have another busy week with our son starting his 3rd week of college classes. My husband's former management company is coming to town for a meeting. They lost their bid and will be announcing the transition phase. Lots of people are concerned of course.

Well, enough about us, let's look at this week's menu plan. And thank you to Organizing Junkie for hosting Menu Plan Monday!

Italian sausage, onion, and red peppers

green beef enchiladas, salad

oven fried drumsticks, ranch beans, salad

cereal, english muffins, fruit

fish and chips

Let. It. Go Melissa Taylor, Online Bible Study~ Week 1

While reading Let. It. Go., Chapter 1, I chuckled and squirm in my seat! Prior to my chronic illness become worst I totally identified with being extremely controlling. It was my way of letting everyone know that I was a great mom and wife.

But because of my severe chronic pain getting worst I’ve had to let things go. My husband and son tell me that I’m more relaxed and easy to live with. And I'm actually feeling better.

I’m looking forward to continuing to read the book. I know there are still areas in my life that I need to release from grip.

If you would like to join the Online Bible Study stop by Melissa Taylor to sign up!

Valentine's Day Food Ideas ~ 2013

Our grown son still talks about the Valentine's Day heart shaped pancakes I would make for him when he was little. He doesn't talk about the gifts, over the years, but the pancakes. It's those little things that they remember.

This year, I'm thinking of heart-shaped bacon to go with those pancakes! For inspiration, here's a few Valentine's Day food ideas that I pinned at Pinterest.
